One of the world’s most prestigious international agricultural events will take place on 4 and 5 September 2026 at Mitrovac Farm in Grabovac, in the Municipality of Čeminac. Baranja will welcome 51 top ploughing competitors from 26 countries, who will compete in two classes – conventional and reversible ploughing.
The programme, preparations and significance of hosting the championship were presented by Goran Ivanović, Deputy Prefect of Osijek-Baranja County; Tugomir Majdak, State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; and Siniša Hrgović, Vice-President of the Croatian Association for the Organisation of Ploughing Competitions and coach of the Croatian national ploughing team.
Preparations for the championship have entered their final stage. A total of 250 hectares has been secured for pre-practice, official practice and the competition itself, while the organisers expect between 10,000 and 15,000 visitors over the two competition days. In addition to the competition, visitors will be able to explore an agricultural machinery and equipment fair and enjoy a rich cultural and entertainment programme showcasing the agricultural, tourism, food and wine offerings of Osijek-Baranja County and Croatia.
The partners and sponsors whose support is helping to deliver the event to the highest international standards were also presented. Mitas, Podravka and Belje are among the prominent partners and sponsors, while the press conference also announced the main prizes for the winners of both competition classes. The Government of the Republic of Croatia and Osijek-Baranja County have secured a total of €760,000 for the organisation of the event, of which the County has contributed €76,000.
The opening ceremony will take place on 3 September, alongside a ministerial conference dedicated to generational renewal in agriculture. The championship therefore extends far beyond the competition itself, providing an important opportunity for international cooperation and for promoting Croatian agriculture, rural areas, tradition and modern technologies.
Croatia will be represented by national champions Saša Višak in the conventional ploughing class and Josip Martinović in the reversible ploughing class. Both competitors have many years of experience and have previously competed at world championships, while the Croatian team’s goal is to achieve its best result to date.
This will be the second time that the Republic of Croatia has hosted the World Ploughing Championship. Following the event held in Biograd na Moru in 2012, the world’s ploughing elite will arrive in Slavonia and Baranja this year – a region with a strong agricultural tradition and significant economic and tourism potential.
