Monday, 31st August 2026

Journey to the easternmost tip of Croatia for historic wine cellars in Ilok, the remarkable Vučedol Culture Museum, and a moving walking tour through Vukovar.

Ilok History & Wine Tour
Tour d2 ilok

At the easternmost edge of Croatia, overlooking the Danube, the town of Ilok stands as one of the country’s oldest and most continuous wine-growing centres. Viticulture here dates back to Roman times, when the strategic frontier of the empire fostered agriculture and trade along the river.

Through the Middle Ages, Ilok developed into a fortified town whose vineyards became inseparable from its political and economic importance.

The historic wine cellars of Ilok are carved deep beneath the old town, maintaining naturally stable temperatures and humidity ideal for long ageing.

Vučedol Culture Museum
Tour d2 vucedul

The Vučedol Culture Museum, located on the Danube riverbank on the outskirts of Vukovar, is one of Croatia’s most distinctive archaeological museums, built directly into the loess slope above the original settlement site.

It presents the legacy of the Vučedol Culture (3000–2500 BC), one of the most advanced Eneolithic cultures in Europe, known for early metallurgy, sophisticated ceramics, astronomy-based timekeeping, and long-distance trade.

Through immersive architecture and narrative-driven exhibitions, the museum places iconic artefacts such as the Vučedol Dove within their wider social and symbolic context.

Vukovar Water Tower & City Walking Tour
Tour d2 vukovar

The Vukovar Water Tower is the most recognisable symbol of Vukovar’s recent history, preserved in its war-damaged form as a memorial to resilience, sacrifice, and national identity, while its viewing platform today offers a panoramic perspective over the town and the Danube as a place of reflection and remembrance.

The walking tour through Vukovar guides visitors along the Danube and through key urban landmarks that trace layers of the town’s past – from baroque heritage and river trade to the events of the 1990s and post-war renewal.
